CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team (7-22, 3-5 MVC) continued its weekend series with Evansville (11-19, 5-3 MVC) on Saturday, as the Flames and Purple Aces met for another afternoon matinee at Curtis Granderson Stadium after UIC took the series opener Friday afternoon.
Contrary to Friday's pitcher's duel, the scoring began early and often in Saturday's contest, as the Purples Aces took an early two-run lead before UIC answered with one in the bottom of the first on a
Blake Cowans RBI single.
Lucas Smith tied the game in the second with an RBI double.
The Purple Aces re-gained a three-run cushion in the fourth with a sac fly and a two-run home run to lead 5-2. UIC wasted no time answering back, chipping away with one in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run from
Vidal Colon. The Flames would tie the game in seventh on a two-run error from the Purple Aces infield.
Evansville tallied two in the top of the ninth to lead 7-5, and the Flames could only muster one run in the bottom of the ninth, leaving the tying run on first base in a 7-6 final score.
