CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team (8-22, 4-5 MVC) closed out its weekend series against Evansville (11-20, 5-4 MVC) on Sunday, as the Flames and Purple Aces were both in search of a series victory.

Â
Luke Nowak was the story of the day offensively for UIC, as his solo home run in the third inning opened up the scoring for the day, giving the Flames the 1-0 lead. In his very next plate appearance in the fourth, he laced a two-RBI double to to right field to put his team ahead 3-0 on three of his own RBI. He would come around to score on a
Blake Cowans RBI single up the middle to put UIC ahead 5-0.
Â
The Purple Aces answered with one run in the fifth before UIC re-established a five run lead in the bottom of the fifth with
AJ Taylor scoring on a passed ball. The two teams traded runs once again in the sixth, as
Nowak scored another run on a
James Harris RBI bunt single, giving UIC its third five-run lead of the game at 7-2.
Â
Despite a three-spot from Evansville in the top of the seventh, UIC would go on to win 7-5, with
Zack Millsap earning his second save of the season, a two-inning effort where he allowed just one hit.
