CHICAGO – UIC Women's Tennis (10-4 overall, 2-1 MVC) earned a gritty 4–3 win over Northern Iowa at home, showcasing the team's depth and determination across all courts.
The Flames secured the early momentum by clinching the doubles point. Paula Rodriguez Gregoris and Mayu Ushio took control on court three with a solid 6–3 win, but UNI responded with a 6–2 victory on court two. The deciding match came down to a tiebreak on court one, where Edit Cosmo and Camille Belberka battled in a tight 7–6 (8–6) loss to UNI's Dalecka and Cardoso. With two victories out of three, UIC claimed the crucial doubles point.
In singles, the match stayed tight, with both teams trading points. UNI captured wins at the top two spots, but UIC stormed back with dominant performances across the rest of the lineup. Marta Halbersztadt was rock-solid at No. 3, finishing strong with a 7–5, 6–0 victory. Nia Cooper and Anais Brion grinded out back-to-back 7–5, 7–5 wins at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively, while Paula Rodriguez Gregoris sealed the team victory with a commanding 6–2, 6–1 win at No. 6 singles marking her first career MVC singles and doubles wins.
After the match, Head Coach Elizabeth Robinson shared her thoughts:
"Even with two starters out of singles and losing the doubles point, we still came through strong. Our team battled through some tough circumstances and showed our depth and resilience today. Our team had a chance to support and fight hard for each other — we look forward to another opportunity tomorrow."
