Valparaiso, Ind. – On the road for a single game, the UIC softball team traveled to close out their Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) series versus the Valparaiso University Beacons. Looking to pick up their second straight conference win, the Flames started strong, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. They would then bring in two more runs in the top of the second off a Grace Fleming two-RBI single up the middle, giving the Flames a 3-0 lead. From there on out, the score held as the Flames (6-33, 2-12) defeated the Beacons (17-18, 6-8) 3-0, earning their second MVC win in a row.
RECAP
A lead-off triple by Dee Dee Caskey, followed by an RBI single from Hailey Cowing, immediately gave the Flames the lead to start out the game. In the top of the second, the Flames built on their lead. Siena Stickney started the inning with a single to right field. After one out, Cameran Rios stepped up to bat and singled up the middle. Stickney and Rios then advanced to third and second, respectively, after a passed ball, putting both runners in scoring position. Both runners would then go on to score on a Grace Fleming two-RBI single up the middle, giving the Flames a 3-0 lead. With no more runs scored between either side, the Flames went on to win their second straight MVC game as they defeated the Beacons 3-0.
Freshman Jasmine Whorley earned the win on the mound, while redshirt senior Alyssa McIntosh earned the save.
