VALPARAISO, Ind. – The UIC baseball team (14-29, 10-9 MVC) opened a three-game series with Valparaiso (8-32, 3-16 MVC) on Friday afternoon, as the Flames traveled nearby looking to separate themselves from the gridlock in the middle of the MVC standings.
Â
Much of Friday's game shaped out as an old-fashioned pitcher's duel, as the first run of the game was not scored until the eighth inning.
Dillon Schueler carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning, as he surrendered his only hit of the game with a one-out single that was later erased with a double play on the next batter.
Â
The Flames pushed ahead in the top of the eighth inning, plating three runs highlighted by RBI singles from
James Harris and
Terrick Thompson-Allen. The Flames got another run on one of Valparaiso's four errors on the day, and would go on to win by a 3-0 final score.
Â
Schueler's complete game one-hitter was the first complete game tossed by a Flames pitcher this season, and the fewest hits allowed in a single game all year. The right-hander struck out five, and didn't walk a single Beacons batter on the afternoon. He only needed 87 pitches to record all 27 outs on the day.
