Chicago, Ill. – For their second game of the series, the UIC softball team and the Bradley University Braves took the field for a windy Saturday contest. The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) series also marked senior day for the Flames as they celebrated their six seniors: Dee Dee Caskey, Jojo Santiago, Grace Fleming, Emma Gumont, Hailey Cowing, and Alyssa McIntosh before the game. With the game underway, the Flames (8-45, 4-22 MVC) would hold an early lead in the bottom of the first, but a big second inning by the Braves (24-28, 13-13 MVC) propelled them ahead. With a huge six inning, the Braves took a 13-3 victory over the Flames.
RECAP
Both teams quickly got on the board in the first inning, with the Flames taking a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the inning, the Flames got action going after Nina Pesare was walked with one out. Pesare stole second before Hailey Cowing was walked. Bases would then go on to be loaded as Emma Gumont was walked during the next at-bat. After a pitching change by the Braves, Siena Stickney stepped up to the plate and singled to right field before advancing to second on the throw. Pesare would score on the play while Cowing was called out at home. Then, off a Sequoia Sanchez single down the right field line, Gumont and Stickney scored, giving the Flames the lead. Unfortunately for the Flames, the lead didn't last long as the Braves had a five-run inning in the second and a one-run inning in the third, taking a 7-3 lead. Two scoreless innings followed before the Braves put together a six-run inning in the top of the sixth, taking a 13-3 lead and ultimately run-ruling the Flames.
