Women’s Soccer Wins Final Non-Conference Match

Flames defeat Fighting Bee’s 2-1

CHICAGO – Back on Flames Field for the first time since August 21st, the UIC women's soccer team welcomed the Saint Ambrose Fighting Bees for their final non-conference match of the 2025 season. A late goal in the 81st minute secured the victory for the Flames (4-4-1, 0-0 MVC) as they defeated the Bees (2-4, 0-0 CCAC) by a final score of 2-1.

The Flames put the pressure on early and frequently, recording six shots in 18 minutes before finding the back of the net in the 19th minute. Bella Baker scored her second of the season after throwing her body at the ball and pushing it into the back of the net. The early goal, assisted by Riley Collett, gave the Flames a 1-0 lead. For the remainder of the half, the Flames would look to extend their lead with eight more shots but were unable to find the goal before heading into halftime with 1-0 lead.

Following halftime, the Flames continued to place shots on goal, but the Bees' goalkeeper and defense fought to keep the ball out of the net. In the 72nd minute, the Bees scored with their only shot of the half, tying the game 1-1. As the game went on, the Flames did not let up as they continued to look for a goal. In the 81st minute of action, the goal came. A Flames throw-in led to a shot by Hannah Gryzik. Unfortunately for Gryzik, the shot would be blocked, but fortunately for the Flames, the ball ended up on the foot of Chopper Carriere. With her back towards goal, Carriere turned with the ball on her first touch before sending a chipped shot straight over the Bees goalkeeper and into the back of the net. The game-winning goal was Carriere's first goal of the season. For the remaining nine minutes, the Flames held on, securing a 2-1 victory.
