Women’s Soccer Secures Win in Green Bay

Flames defeat Phoenix 3-0

Green Bay, Wis. – Wrapping up four straight away games, the UIC women's soccer team took on the Green Bay Phoenix on the road. Up north, the Flames (3-4-1, 0-0 MVC) were under pressure early from the Phoenix (1-4-1, 0-0 HORIZON) but took advantage of their opportunities. With the Flames placing three of their four shots on goal into the back of the net, they secured back-to-back victories, defeating the Phoenix 3-0.

With both teams coming off victories, the two sides fought for possession of the ball. First-half action saw the Phoenix place two of their four shots on goal, while the Flames put their only shot on goal into the back of the net. Bella Baker scored the Flames' first goal, her first of the season, with an unassisted shot into the lower left corner, giving the Flames a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute. UIC would go on to hold Green Bay scoreless through the rest of the half to secure a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Second-half action saw Francesca Faraci come up with three key saves to keep the Phoenix off the scoreboard while the Flames extended their lead. With her first career shot, Becca Ruggiero recorded her first goal as a Flame with a shot low and center in the 67th minute, extending the Flames' lead to 2-0 over the Phoenix. Ruggiero was assisted by Emmy Higgins and Sophia Jaime. Just before the final whistle sounded, Jaime joined in on the goalscoring action, scoring her first goal of the season with a shot low and center in the 90th minute to secure the Flames a 3-0 victory in their first multi-goal performance of 2025.

Sara Sanabria and Faraci combined for five saves in the shutout victory.
