CHICAGO – In just her second week of collegiate volleyball, Ana Petrides ("ON-uh puh-TRY-diss") named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week after a stellar showing at Morehead State's Comfort Inn-Vitational over the weekend.

The Park Ridge, Ill. native notched 22 kills and 10 total blocks across three matches at Johnson Arena. She was a pivotal force against Radford Friday afternoon, collecting a collegiate-high 13 kills in the sweep over Radford.

Now with just four matches under her belt, Petrides is tied for fifth on the team in total kills (34), fourth in kills per set (2.13), and leads the Flames in blocks per set (1.13). In the entire conference, Petrides is fifth in blocks per set and seventh in hitting percentage (.343).

The freshman becomes the first member of the Flames to earn a weekly award in the 2025 season. She is the second member of the Flames to earn Freshman of the Week honors since UIC joined the MVC in July 2022. Antonie Kelnárová earned this weekly distinction a season ago.

The Flames are back at Credit Union 1 Arena this weekend, opening the weekend against Central Arkansas (1-4) for a 6 p.m. (CT) first serve Friday night. It will also be Back to School Night, where fans can spin-the-wheel to win prizes and the first 100 students will receive UIC pens.

UIC students, staff and youths in eighth grade and under are admitted to all volleyball matches free of charge, while adults and youths in ninth grade and above can purchase tickets for $5 each at the gate three entrance of Credit Union 1 Arena on match night. In addition, fans can buy the new Flames Fast Pass, a one-time $50 purchase that will provide the bearer with access to all UIC home athletics events (except men's and women's basketball) during the 2025-26 academic year.
