CHICAGO, Ill. – UIC track and field competed in a split-squad weekend, sending athletes to the Aurora University Grand Prix and the University of Iowa Larry Wieczorek Invitational, combining for three top-10 all-time indoor performances, nine personal-best marks, and one event victory across the two meets.
MEN
At the Aurora University Grand Prix, the Flames opened the weekend with a win in the 4x200m relay as Marco Agacaoili, Joseph Labib, Ethan Murphy, and Aiden Rodriguez combined for a first-place finish in 1:31.85.
Olukolajo Sodipe placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.34m, while Gabriel Fiedorow finished seventh in the 400m, clocking a 49.66.
UIC also saw strong performances at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, led by Theodore Cunningham, who placed third in the 800m with a time of 1:54.08, moving him to seventh on UIC's all-time indoor list.
Alex Bacci (4:16.05) and Aiden Massaro (4:17.13) finished 16th and 19th, respectively, in the mile.
WOMEN
In Aurora, Makaya Philips recorded a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.49m. Mia Maglaya placed fourth in the triple jump (10.98m), while Chinenye Ifeajekwu finished fifth in the 400m with a time of 58.29.
At Iowa, Korima Gonzalez led the Flames with a fifth-place finish in the 800m, running 2:14.56 to rank seventh all-time at UIC indoors. Indigo Sterud placed fifth in the mile at 5:10.99, followed closely by Emma Dubie, who finished sixth with a time of 5:11.68.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"Felt great to have our program finally compete after the winter break with several strong performances over the weekend," said head coach Paul Zavala. "Looking to build some momentum heading into this weekend as we are starting to enter the tougher part of our indoor schedule."
UP NEXT
UIC will again compete with a split squad next weekend, sending athletes to the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational and the Gately Chicago Collegiate Invitational.
