Lake Charles, La. – On day two of the Carl Vincent Insurance Invitational, the UIC softball team took on the Lamar Cardinals (5-4) and the host, the McNeese State Cowgirls (6-4) for the second time. In game one against the Cardinals, the Flames would come within one in the third inning, but momentum swung in favor of the Cardinals, who went on to defeat UIC 14-5 in five innings. In game two against the Cowgirls, both teams came out swinging in the first two innings, combining for 11 runs. In the end it would be the host who ended up on top, as the Cowgirls defeated the Flames 14-4 in five innings. The Flames finish the day 0-2, putting their record at 3-6.
GAME ONE
Both teams found momentum early, scoring multiple runs, but it would be Lamar who lead at the end of the first by a score of 3-2. Following a scoreless second inning, action picked back up in the third when both teams scored three runs respectively.
Siena Stickney got the Flames going with a RBI double to right center field, scoring
Sam Tourtillott and moving
Samantha White to third. With two outs,
Grace Taylor brought home White and Stickney with a two-RBI single to left field. At the end of the third inning, the Flames remained behind by one with the scoreboard reading 5-4. Momentum then swung in favor of the Cardinals, who picked up one run in the fourth before having a seven run fifth inning, taking a 14-5 lead over the Flames. UIC would get runners on base in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn't bring anyone home as they fell to Lamar in five innings in game one of their double-header.

GAME TWO
Right back into action, the Flames took on the host for their second game of the day. Action began early between the two sides, with McNeese scoring five runs in the bottom on the first to take the early lead. UIC answered in the top of the second with four runs. With
Siena Stickney reaching first on an error and advancing to second on a fielder's choice,
Emily Brecht stepped up to bat. Brecht picked up the Flames first hit of the game, bringing home Stickney with an RBI single to center field and advanced
Samantha White who pinch ran for
Larissa Ortiz. Stepping up next in the batting order was
Ari O'Connell who went on to record her second career home run with a three-run dinger to left center field. The Cowgirls would get a home run of their own in the bottom of the inning, and at the end of two UIC trailed McNeese 7-4. For the remainder of the game, the Cowgirls kept pace, scoring five runs in the third and two in the fourth to defeat the Flames 14-4 in five innings.
