HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The UIC baseball team (3-3, 0-0 MVC) earned a series win against Sam Houston (3-3, 0-0 CUSA) following its 2-0 win Friday night, defeating the Bearkats 2-1 in the second game of the three game series on Saturday afternoon.
The Flames struck first in the second inning with a
Lucas Smith single which scored
Sean Cody and
Will Flanigan. Sam Houston added a run of their own on a double in the third inning to cut the Flames lead in half. A pitching duel ensued with neither team being able to push a run across in the following six innings.
Starting pitcher
Brandon Bak was phenomenal for UIC, earning the win while going seven innings, tallying five strikeouts, allowing six hits and surrendering one run.
Jake Jakubowski came in for an inning of relief in the eighth inning and
Zack Millsap recorded the final three outs to close out the ninth inning, earning his third save in as many tries this season.
