Softball Defeated on Day Two of Frost Classic

Flames fall to Cornell and Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tenn. – Back in action for day two of the Frost Classic, the UIC softball team took on the Cornell Big Red (2-1) and the Chattanooga Mocs (7-6) for their second meetings of the weekend. In game one of the day, the Flames jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, but the big Red would come back to defeat the Flames 5-4. In game two, the Mocs jumped ahead with a one-run first inning. They would go on to add at least two runs in each of the next three inning, while the Flames were only able to tally one. At the final out, the Flames fell to the Mocs 8-1. UIC finished the day 0-2, putting their record at 5-9. 
 
 
GAME ONE 
Off to a strong start, the Flames put up a four-run first inning over the Big Red. As bases were loaded, Cameran Rios got the action going with a two-RBI single to right field, scoring Emily Brecht and Siena Stickney. Trinity Brandhorst then followed up with a sac-fly to center field, allowing Larissa Ortiz to score. Rios then made her way home for the final run of the inning off a Jordan McCaffery single through the left side. The Flames would lead the Big Red through the first two innings before Cornell tied it up in the third. After a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, the Big Red took the lead in the bottom of the sixth off an RBI single. The Flames would get runners in scoring position in the seventh but fell short as they were defeated by the Big Red 5-4.

GAME TWO
Chattanooga took an early 1-0 lead over UIC before extending the score to 4-0 in the second to get things going. The Flames would cut the deficit to three in the top of the third. Fighting through a 12 pitch at-bat, Diamond Blomlie led the Flames off with a left field single. With one out, Emily Brecht reached on a fielder's choice hit to third base before scoring off a Sam Tourtillott right field double. In the bottom half of the inning, the Mocs extended their lead, going up 6-1 over the Flames. The home team added two runs in the fourth, taking a seven-run lead. For the remainder of the game, the score would remain the same, ultimately ending in an 8-1 loss for the Flames.
