Softball Traveling to Florida for Make It Happen Games

Flames will face five opponents in three days

CHICAGO – The UIC softball team is set to compete in its fourth and final tournament beginning on Friday before the start of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) season. Between February 27th and March 1st, the Flames will compete in five games in Madeira Beach, Fla. as they take part in the Make It Happen Games. They will begin action on Friday against Albany with first pitch scheduled for 11:30 a.m. CT. Livestream will be available on athletesgolive.comwhile live stats will be available on UICFlames.com.

HISTORY
Albany – This will mark the first meeting between the Flames and the Great Danes

Bowling Green – This will mark the fifth meeting between the Flames and the Falcons, with UIC leading the series 3-1. The two sides last met on Mar. 7th, 2025, where the Flames fell to the Falcons 7-6 in the Hoosier Classic. 

Bethune-Cookman – This will mark the second meeting between the Flames and the Wildcats, with UIC recording the victory in the lone contest. The two sides met on Feb. 10th, 2001, in Arlington, Texas where the Flames came away with a 7-3 victory.

Colgate – This will mark the fourth meeting between the Flames and the Raiders, with UIC leading the series 2-1. Their last meeting took place on Feb. 24th, 2024, with the Raiders taking a 5-4 victory over the Flames in Gainesville, Fla. 

Siena – This will mark the first meeting between the Flames and the Saints

FROST CLASSIC RECAP
The Flames played six games last weekend in the Frost Classic, winning two and tying one. UIC opened the tournament with a 4-2 win against Cornell on Feb. 20th. On the final day of action, the Flames once again defeating Cornell, this time 6-5 in nine innings after Siena Stickney hit a walk-off single, scoring Cameran Rios. In the final game of the tournament, the Flames and Chattanooga were in a deadlock after the home team tied the contest in the sixth inning. In the seventh, both teams picked up two runs each, making it an 8-8 tie. Due to travel, the game was called before extra innings could commence. 

Rios had herself a week for the Flames, going 12-for-23 with a .522 avg., 6 runs, 5 RBI, a double, a .522 OB% and one stolen base. On Sunday, Rios went 8-for-10 to help lead the Flames to one victory and an 8-8 tie.
