Madeira Beach, Fla. – For their fourth and final tournament of the season before Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) action begins, the UIC softball team began action in the Make it Happen Games, taking on the UAlbany Great Danes (1-5) and the Bowling Green Falcons (9-3). In game one, the Fames recorded a 9-1 victory in six innings over the Great Danes.
Larissa Ortiz and
Sam Tourtillott both homered in the contest. In game two, the contest would be called early due to inclement weather, resulting in a 6-2 victory in six innings for the Flames over the Falcons. The Flames finish the 2-0, putting their record at 8-9-1
GAME ONE
The Flames got the action going early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. With
Cameran Rios and
Sam Tourtillott on base,
Siena Stickney brought both runners in with a fielder's choice situation. UIC would go on to extend their lead in the top of the third. Rios and Tourtillott once again reach base successfully and found themselves on third and second respectively. With one out on the board,
Ari O'Connell reached on a fielder's choice while Rios made her way home. Tourtillott would then score off an
Emily Brecht double to right center field, making it a 4-0 ballgame in the third inning. Both teams recorded at least one run in the fourth. The Flames opened the top of the inning with two runs. With
Grace Taylor on third, Tourtillott hit an RBI double to right field. Tourtillott would then score on the following play when Stickney hit an RBI single to second base, giving the Flames a 6-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Great Danes got on the board following a lead off solo home run, making the score 6-1. The Flames answered in the fifth with a solo home run of their own when
Larissa Ortiz sent the ball out to left center field. Recording three straight outs in the bottom of the inning, the Flames led the Great Danes 7-1 after five. Sixth inning action began with a leadoff triple by Rios followed by a Tourtillott home run to left center field, her first home run as a Flame. UAlbany was able to get runners in scoring position, but the UIC held strong as they recorded a 9-1 victory over the Great Danes in six innings.

GAME TWO
On defense, the Flames began the game recording three straight outs. Offensively in the first inning, the Flames took an early lead with a two-RBI single from
Siena Stickney. The Falcons would tie the game in the top of the second with a home run before a scoreless third and fourth inning followed. In the bottom of the fifth, the Flames took a three-run lead. With bases loaded, an
Ari O'Connell sac-fly brought home
Diamond Blomlie for one run.
Emily Brecht then stepped up to bat a singled up,
Sam Toutillott scored off the play while Stickney scored off an error by the center fielder. As rain began to fall in Florida, the Flames added one run in the bottom of the sixth when Blomlie scored on a wild pitch. Due to inclement weather, the game would be called, resulting in a 6-2 victory in six innings for the Flames.
