Madeira Beach, Fla. – Day two of the Make it Happen Games, the UIC softball team took on the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (4-15) for their lone game of the day. A scoreless affair after four innings, the Wildcats took the lead in the fifth inning before the Flames quickly responded in the sixth. With the help of an
Ari O'Connell home run, the Flames went on to defeat the Wildcats 4-3. The Flames improve their record 9-9-1
Following four scoreless innings, the Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Without hesitation, the Flames responded in the sixth.
Sam Tourtillott began the inning with a walk before advancing to second on a
Siena Stickney sac-bunt. Stepping up to bat,
Ari O'Connell nailed her third home run of the season, putting the Flames on top 2-1. In the final inning, the Flames extended their lead.
Diamond Blomlie reached first in a fielder's choice situation before stealing second. After Tourtillott reached first on a fielding error, both Blomlie and Tourtillott stole third and second respectively. With both runners in scoring position, Stickney hit a two-RBI single to left field, putting the Flames on top 4-1. In the bottom of the inning, the Wildcats came within two, but the Flames remained ahead, clinching their third victory in a row and improving their unbeaten streak to five.
