Box Score 2 Las Vegas, Nev. – Opening the 2026 season with a double-header on the road, the UIC softball team took on the California Baptist (CBU) Lancers (2-1), and the UNLV Rebels (1-1). In game one of the day, the Flames fell to the Lancers 12-0 in five innings.
Sophie Gerochi and
Grace Taylor collected the Flames two hits. In game two, the Flames started out hot, collecting two runs off a
Larissa Ortiz single, but were unable to stay ahead as momentum swung in favor of the Rebels, who ultimately defeated the Flames 14-3 in five innings. At the conclusion of opening day, Flames start out the 2026 season 0-2.
GAME ONE
Sophomore
Jenna Osborne earned the opening day, game one start for UIC as the Flames took on the CBU Lancers. In the bottom of the first, the Lancers recorded the first run of the game to take an early 1-0 lead. Freshman
Sophie Gerochi collected her first career hit and the Flames first hit of the 2026 season with a single up the middle in the top of the second. In the top of the fourth,
Grace Taylor collected her first hit as a Flame with a single to shallow right field. Although the Flames would find themselves in scoring position throughout the game, they would be unable to bring a runner home. The Lancers would go on to record at least one run each inning, eventually leading to a 12-0 victory over the Fames in five innings.

GAME TWO
The Flames started out hot in game two, picking up two runs in the first inning.
Sam Tourtillott got the action going with a lead-off double. Following an out, Tourtillott advanced to third off an
Emily Brecht single. Brecht then stole second, putting both runners in scoring position. After the Flames second out,
Larissa Ortiz stepped up to bat and would go on to hit a two-RBI single, giving the Flames an early 2-0 lead over the host. The Flames would remain ahead until the bottom of the second when the Rebels tied the game off a two-run home run. The Rebels then went on to take the lead from the Flames in the bottom of the third, adding on four runs to go ahead 6-2. In the top of the fourth, UIC cut into UNLV's lead when
Cameran Rios brought in
Ari O'Connell with an RBI single. Unfortunately for the Flames, the Rebels spent the bottom half of the inning extending their lead. The home team would add eight runs in the fourth inning, putting them ahead of the Flames 14-3. The Flames were unable to get momentum going in the top of the fifth, ultimately falling to the Rebels 14-3 in five innings.
