CHICAGO – Closing out their 2026 home opening series, the UIC softball team welcomed the Drake Bulldogs to Flames Field for a Saturday afternoon Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) contest. The sunny solo game saw the visiting Bulldogs come out hot and never look back as they avoided the weekend sweep and defeated the Flames 9-2. The Flames move to 14-15-1, 4-5 in conference play while the Bulldogs move to 7-16, 1-5 in conference play.
Drake got the action going early, recording a run in the first, second, and third innings to take a 3-0 lead. UIC collected their first hit of the game in the bottom of the third when
Siena Stickney singled to the third baseman. In the fourth, the Flames recorded their only runs of the game. With
Sam Tourtillott on second and
Nina Pesare on third and one out,
Ari O'Connell hit a two-RBI triple to right center field, putting the Flames on the board. Between the fifth and sixth, the Bulldogs added six runs, taking a 9-2 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, the Flames would get a runner in scoring position but would ultimately come up short as they fell to the Bulldogs in game three of the series.
