Softball Ends Series with Victory over Bradley

Flames defeat Braves 13-4

Peoria, Ill. – Looking to end the series with a win, the UIC softball team jumped out to an early lead in game three against the Bradley Braves in a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) contest. With the early lead, the Flames never looked back, as they added seven runs throughout the remainder of the game and allowed the Braves just four, leading to a 13-4 victory. The Flames move to 16-17-1, 5-7 in conference play while the Braves move to 9-25, 3-9 in conference play.

The Flames wasted no time getting out to an early start. Sam Tourtillott got the action going with a lead-off triple down the right field line before scoring off a Siena Stickney RBI single to center field. Stickney would then go on to score on a bases loaded walk before Ari O'Connell scored on a Cameran Rios sac-fly. With bases once again loaded, the runners would advance on a wild pitch, allowing Larissa Ortiz to score. Emilia Bartholomew then stepped up to bat and hit a two-RBI single through the right side, giving the Flames a 6-0 lead in the first inning. For the remainder of the game, the Flames would go on to score at least one run in each inning, while holding the Braves to just four runs total.

Second inning action saw both sides record one run, with Stickney scoring off a wild pitch ofr the Flames. The third inning played out the same, with both the Flames and Braves getting a run. Rios scored for the Flames on a fielder's choice situation, and at the end of three, UIC led Bradley 8-2. In the fourth, the Flames had a three-run inning. O'Connell brought in the first run with an RBI single through the right side. With bases loaded, Rios hit an RBI ground out, scoring Stickney. The final run of the inning came off a Nina Pesare RBI single through the left side, giving the Flames an 11-2 lead. In the fifth, Stickney hit an RBU single before the Flames scored their final run of the game off an error by the Braves. Bradley would get two runs in the bottom of the inning, but with the Flames leading by nine, run rule would be implemented, giving the Flames a 13-4 victory in five innings.
