TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – As the wind was gusting through Bob Warn Field Thursday afternoon, UIC baseball (8-18-1, 3-4 MVC) dropped the opening game of a three-game series against Indiana State (15-14, 5-2 MVC), 20-10 in eight innings of play.
The Flames were first on the board when on the first pitch of the at-bat, junior
Jake Busson crushed a ball over the left field wall for his 11
th of the season. Junior
Thomas Curry added an insurance run when he scored on a ground out to give UIC a 2-0 lead.
After the Sycamores cut the lead to one, junior
Vidal Colon connected on a 2-1 pitch for a three-run home run, scoring Curry and junior
Ashton Kampa.
Indiana State scored six unanswered runs when in the top of the fifth, Kampa scored after senior
Colin Husko had a bases loaded walk. The Flames managed to take the lead when Curry crushed a three-run home run of his own in the top of the sixth, giving UIC a 9-8 lead.
The Sycamores scored eight more runs in the next two innings before UIC's final RBI of the game was collected by freshman
Sean Cody, scoring Kampa on an RBI single in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the frame, Indiana State scored three consecutive runs to secure the win.
