Baseball Drops Opening Game Against Indiana State

The Flames aim to bounce back Friday at 5:30 p.m. (CT) at Bob Warn Field.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – As the wind was gusting through Bob Warn Field Thursday afternoon, UIC baseball (8-18-1, 3-4 MVC) dropped the opening game of a three-game series against Indiana State (15-14, 5-2 MVC), 20-10 in eight innings of play.

The Flames were first on the board when on the first pitch of the at-bat, junior Jake Busson crushed a ball over the left field wall for his 11th of the season. Junior Thomas Curry added an insurance run when he scored on a ground out to give UIC a 2-0 lead.

After the Sycamores cut the lead to one, junior Vidal Colon connected on a 2-1 pitch for a three-run home run, scoring Curry and junior Ashton Kampa.
Indiana State scored six unanswered runs when in the top of the fifth, Kampa scored after senior Colin Husko had a bases loaded walk. The Flames managed to take the lead when Curry crushed a three-run home run of his own in the top of the sixth, giving UIC a 9-8 lead.

The Sycamores scored eight more runs in the next two innings before UIC's final RBI of the game was collected by freshman Sean Cody, scoring Kampa on an RBI single in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the frame, Indiana State scored three consecutive runs to secure the win.
