Baseball Looks to Weekend Series with Youngstown State

First pitch against the Penguins is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. (CT) Friday morning.

CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team (12-21-1, 7-5 MVC) will play a non conference weekend series against Youngstown State (9-31, 6-9 Horizon) at Curtis Granderson stadium. The Flames enter the weekend 0-2 for the week, after dropping two midweek games against NIU and Iowa. UIC has swept back-to-back weekend home series. The three game set with the Penguins is set to begin Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 11:05 a.m. (CT). An audio broadcast will be available Friday on the Flames Network. The games Saturday and Sunday will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available at UICFlames.com.

SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE
  • This series will be the 121st-123rd meeting between the Flames and Penguins. UIC leads the all-time series 81-39.
  • Youngstown State lost its most recent game against Toledo 21-0 on Wednesday evening.
  • Redshirt junior Brady Shannon leads the Penguins in home runs (12), runs batted in (25) and runs scored (26). Shannon leads the Horizon League in home runs.
  • Senior Braden Gebhardt leads the Penguins pitching staff in wins (three), strikeouts (74), earned run average (2.21) and innings pitched (61). Gebhardt's ERA and strikeouts pace the Horizon League.
IOWA RECAP
  • The Flames lost against Iowa on Wednesday night by a score of 6-4
  • Andrew Pyszka clobbered a three-run home run in the second inning.
  • Colin Husko led the Flames in hits going two-for-four at the plate and also drove in a run.
  • Kendall Lyons and Michael Vitellaro combined to pitch 3.2 innings without allowing a run and allowing two hits. Vitellaro struck out three.
UIC CAREERS IN SPORTS DAY
 
  • Prior to UIC's Kids Day Game on April 24, the Flames will host a Career Day event inside the Flames Athletic Center from 9–11 a.m.
  • Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from UIC Athletics staff about their roles and the various career paths available in sports.
