Softball Earns Series Victory Over Evansville

Flames defeat Purple Aces 7-4

CHICAGO – With the series up for grabs, the UIC softball team and the Evansville Purple Aces faced off in game three of the Missouri Valley Conference series. Following no runs through the first two innings, both teams recorded runs in the third. After three, the Flames would lead the rest of the way, going on to secure the series victory as they defeated the Aces 7-4. The Flames improve to 21-28-1, 10-15 in conference play while the Aces fall to 21-24, 12-12 in conference play.

Prior to the game, the Flames honored eleven alumni, including assistant coaches Natalie Hernandez and Carlee Jo Clark. Jenna Marsalli, class of 2014, threw out the honorary first pitch.

A scoreless affair through two innings, both teams would find their bats in the third. The Purple Aces got on the board first in the top of the inning with a three hit, two run inning. In the bottom of the inning, the Flames responded with a five-run inning to take the lead. Sam Tourtillott scored the first run of the inning on a wild pitch. Then, with two outs and runners on second and third, Ari O'Connell hit a two-RBI single to center field, giving the Flames the lead. The Flames then loaded the bases before Siena Stickney struck a two-RBI single to right field. At the end of three, the Flames led the Aces 5-2.

In the fourth, the Aces would cut the score to one with a bases loaded walk and an RBI single.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Flames added two insurance runs in the sixth. With two outs, Emilia Bartholomew got the action going with a single to right field. Bartholomew then went on to score off an O'Connell double to left center field. O'Connell would then score herself off a Pesare RBI single.

The Aces collected one hit in the seventh, but it wouldn't be enough. UIC would secure the series victory, defeating Evansville 7-4

Jasmine Whorley earned her 15th win of the season with the complete game performance.
