Thomas Curry led the offensive surge with five hits and five RBI in the win.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The UIC baseball team (20-24-1, 12-6 MVC) had a tremendous day at the plate, scattering 18 hits in its 11-5 win over Evansville (17-28, 10-8 MVC) at the German American Bank Field at Charles H. Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Flames were first to get on the board in the top of the third. After junior Ashton Kampa would reach on base with a fielding error, two batters later, junior Thomas Curry would take

Evansville's Kevin Reed's 2-2 pitch over the left field wall for his seventh home run of the season.

Later in the inning, after junior Lucas Smith would crush a double, later scoring on freshman Sean Cody's double of his own to give UIC an early 3-0 lead.

The Purple Aces would cut into UIC's lead in the bottom of the fourth before Smith would add another insurance run for the Flames, scoring Curry with his second double of the game in the very next inning.

Evansville answered with a run of its own, but UIC quickly regained control. Kampa delivered a go-ahead extra-base hit that sailed over the head of center fielder Reid Haire, scoring Acosta from first. Kampa later scored in the inning on Curry's second home run of the game, giving the Flames a 7-3 lead entering the bottom of the sixth.

In his final inning of relief in the sixth, with a runner on, graduate student Jared Lessman threw a 1-2 pitch to Evansville's Reid Haire, who drove it to dead center. Junior Vidal Colon made an over-the-shoulder catch for the first out. Two pitches later, Lessman forced Charlie Longmeier into an inning-ending double play.

The Flames' biggest inning came in the seventh, when they scored four insurance runs. Acosta opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly, bringing Colon home from third. Later in the inning, Curry added his fifth RBI of the game with a single to left, scoring Wright. Two pitches later, junior Andrew Pyszka lined a double into the gap, driving in Curry and junior Jake Busson.

Evansville would plate two more runs in the bottom of the eighth before graduate student Zack Millsap entered the game in the ninth, ending the game on a ground out to freshman Cody to secure the win.
