CHICAGO – In their final nonconference home game of the season, the UIC baseball team (20-25-1, 12-6 MVC) couldn't keep up with Milwaukee (18-29, 10-8 Horizon) Wednesday night at Curtis Granderson Stadium, falling short in a 12-6 bout.
The Panthers struck first, but junior
Ashton Kampa answered in the bottom of the inning with a 362-foot solo home run over the right-field wall, knotting the game at 1-1 after the opening frame.
Milwaukee would respond soon after with four runs in the second inning before the Flames lead-off hitter,
Will Flanigan stepped up for his second at-bat of the night. On a 3-2 pitch from the Panther's Alex Vander Loop, the senior would crush a solo home run of his own to cut into Milwaukee's lead, 5-2 after three innings of play.
The Panthers added three more runs in the fourth inning before Kampa responded with his second home run of the night to lead off the bottom half of the frame. An inning later, Kampa delivered again, launching a two-run 307-foot homer just over the right-field wall to trim the deficit as UIC trailed 8-5 entering the late innings. Kampa became the first member of the program to hit three homeruns since Kendall Ewell had three against Bradley in May 2024.
Milwaukee would see four more runs across between the sixth and seventh innings before Kampa would score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior
Lucas Smith, being UIC's last run to cross home plate in the night. The Panthers would secure the win two innings later.
