Women’s Soccer Battled Illinois to a 0-0 Draw

Flames record nil-nil draw on the road

Champaign, Ill. – For some Sunday night action, the UIC women's soccer team took on in-state rival, the Illinois Fighting Illini. Taking place at Demirjian Park, the Flames (0-2-2, 0-0 MVC) found themselves on the defensive end for much of the match, as the Illini (1-0-2, 0-0 BIG10) controlled the game offensively. Although Illinois outshot UIC 16-6, the Flames held strong, fighting for a nil-nil draw.

FIRST HALF
UIC recorded the first shot of the game in the 7th minute off the foot of Camryn Ries, forcing Izzy Lee of the Illini to make a save.

Ries then placed her second shot of the game on frame in the 16th minute before Becca Ruggiero sent a shot to the bottom center of the net in the 21st minute. Both shots were saved by Lee.

Momentum shifted in favor of the Illini for the remainder of the half, as the home team went on to record six of their nine first-half shots in the final 20 minutes.

At the halftime whistle, the Flames and Illini remained tied.

SECOND HALF
Back on the field, the Illini kicked off second-half action with a shot in the 47th minute.

Throughout the final 45 minutes of action, the Illini went on to outshoot the Flames 7-3.

Delaney Engel recorded the Flames' first shot of the half in the 63rd minute.

Ries continued to take opportunities for the Flames until the final whistle, recording back-to-back shots in the 89th minute.

Defensively, the Flames held strong. Sidney Lazenby made four saves while the defensive line blocked multiple attempts from Illinois.
At the final whistle, the Flames and Illini picked up their second ties of the season.
