CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team (1-6,0-0 MVC) went toe-to-toe against Southeastern Conference's Auburn (5-2, 0-0 SEC) to open the UIC-DePaul Invitational Friday evening, falling in straight sets to the Tigers in front of the home crowd at Credit Union 1 Arena.
Senior
Tamara Kisic led UIC with 10 kills, five digs and two aces, while sophomore
Emma Colombari added eight kills. Sophomore libero
Ava Young tallied 11 digs in the contest.
Auburn opened the first set with a 6-0 run before UIC battled back to tie the score at 11-11 behind a kill from Kisic. After trading leads, the Flames went on a 4-1 run, capped by back-to-back kills from Colombari, to take a 17-14 advantage. The Tigers rallied to tie the set at 23-23 before claiming the first set in extra points, 26-24.
After a tough second set, the Flames looked to bounce back in the third, with Kisic recording the first of her four kills in the set to give UIC an early 7-4 lead. After the lead changed hands four times midway through the set, Auburn pulled away late to secure the set, 25-21.
