CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team (2-6, 0-0 MVC) couldn't be stopped Saturday night, sweeping in consecutive sets against Central Michigan (0-10, 0-0 MAC) in front of the home crowd at Credit Union 1 Arena.
Freshman
Robyn Ward led UIC with eight kills and four total blocks across the match. Seniors
Tamara Kisic and
Gabi Peter each contributed seven kills in the win. Freshman setter
Judy Asar finished with a double-double, collecting 18 assists and 10 digs in the contest. Â
The Flames started strong, jumping out to a 9-2 lead behind kills from Kisic and Ward. The Chippewas cut the deficit to two before a service ace from freshman setter
Paulina Ströh was followed by back-to-back Central Michigan attack errors, giving UIC a 25-17 first-set victory.
Central Michigan responded quickly in the second set, holding the lead through the 15-point mark before Kisic recorded a pair of kills to give UIC its first lead at 16-15. The Flames created separation late in the set, with sophomore
Emma Colombari's second kill of the frame giving UIC a 25-21 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
UIC carried the momentum into the third set, opening with a 6-0 run highlighted by three consecutive service aces from Young. The Flames entered the media timeout with a 12-4 lead and maintained the advantage through the remainder of the set. Kisic's seventh and final kill of the night secured the sweep, as UIC claimed the third set, 25-20.
