Volleyball Faces Valparaiso in MVC Midweek Match-Up

VALPARAISO, Ind. – The UIC volleyball team (4-10, 0-2 MVC) continues its search for its first Missouri Valley Conference win when it takes on Valparaiso (8-6, 0-2 MVC) at 6 p.m. (CT) Thursday at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

SCOUTING VALPARAISO
  • This will be the 66th meeting between the programs, with UIC holding a 33-32 advantage in the all-time series. Since joining the MVC, the Flames have won nine of the last 10 meetings against the Beacons.
  • After an 8-4 start to the non conference season, the Beacons remain in search of their first MVC win after falling to Belmont (5-8, 2-0 MVC) in four sets before dropping a five-set match to Illinois State (11-2, 2-0 MVC) last weekend.
  • Junior Ava Helming has been one of the top right-side attackers in the conference, ranking third in the MVC with 3.76 kills per set.
  • Junior Maggie Uhwat has made an impact from the service line, averaging 0.48 service aces per set to rank fourth in The Valley.
LAST WEEKEND RECAP – vs. ILLINOIS STATE/BELMONT
  • The Flames started MVC play at home at Credit Union 1 Arena, falling in back-to-back matches against the Redbirds and the Bruins entering the weekend.
  • Senior Gabi Peter and sophomore Emma Colombari led the team over the weekend with 13 kills apiece across seven sets of play.
  • Freshman Maryam Hussein had a strong showing to open conference play, collecting 11 kills and a team-leading seven total blocks.
  • Five Flames finished with 10+ digs over the weekend, with sophomore libero Ava Young leading the way with 22 digs (3.14 D/S)
