Chicago, Ill. - The UIC Volleyball team, which finished the 2000 regular season in sole possession of fourth place in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference with a 6-6 league record and 18-12 overall slate, will be the #4 seed at this weekend's MCC Championship in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Flames will meet fifth-seeded Wright State in the quarterfinal round on Saturday, November 18, at 9:00 a.m. The winner will then meet top-seeded Loyola in the semifinals at 4:00 p.m.
UIC and Wright State spilt their two regular-season meetings. WSU swept the Flames on Oct. 13 in Dayton, Ohio, but UIC returned the favor with a sweep of the Raiders on Saturday at the Physical Education Building.
The Flames will have momentum on their side this weekend as they head into the MCC Championship on a three-match winning streak after earning a pair of key league wins at home over the weekend. On Friday, the Flames downed Butler in four games, 17-15, 15-6, 10-15, 15-12. They followed that up with a clean sweep of Wright State 15-7, 15-7, 15-10, on Saturday to clinch fourth place in the MCC.
