Chicago, Ill - The UIC women's basketball team won its fifth straight game, and home finale, Saturday night at UIC Pavilion, downing UW-Milwaukee 63-45.
Amanda Bartz connected on a career-best six three-pointers, tying her career high with 21 points to lead the Flames' offensive attack.
"Amanda is a great shooter," Head Coach Tim Eatman remarked. "If she gets an open look, she is going to knock it down."
Defense was the key to this victory, though, as UIC held the Panthers (14-11, 8-4 MCC) to a season-low 29 percent field goal percentage (17-for-58) and a season-low 45 points.
"I'm very proud of the way we took care of the little things," Eatman said following the game. "We hustled for loose balls and really paid attention to our defense."
The Flames' (12-14, 7-6 MCC) defense keyed a 14-3 run late in the second half to turn a seven-point lead (47-40) with 6:30 left into a comfortable 18-point advantage (61-43).
The two squads played tight the first half as UIC chipped away at an early UWM lead (14-8) to take a two-point lead into intermission (26-24). The Flames are now 10-2 this season when leading at the half.
While Bartz was the only Flame to score in double figures, nine UIC players scored. Jennifer Cook, who was honored before the game as UIC's lone senior, tallied five points, three rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot. Kimberly Henry led the Flames with eight rebounds.
UIC, which went 6-1 in the month of February, has one more regular-season contest left on the slate as they travel to meet city rival Loyola on Saturday, March 4, at 3:00 p.m.
