Box Score

Nashville, Tenn. - The UIC baseball team dropped a heartbreaker Saturday afternoon to Belmont, 5-4, as the Bruins' winning run scored following a bases- loaded walk. The Flames fall to 5-13 while Belmont improves to 12-13.

UIC grabbed a 4-0 lead through the first three innings as it tallied three runs in the second and one more in the third. A walk to Bob Rosinski and singles by John Rosner and Weber Bowen sparked the Flames' three-run second.

The Bruins, however, chipped away at the UIC lead, putting one run on the board in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth before the ninth-inning heroics.

In the bottom of the ninth, reliever Steve Carlson retired the first two batters with a strikeout and a foul out before surrendering a double to centerfield. A hit batter placed runners on second and third for the Flames' fourth pitcher of the afternoon, Larry Banks. The UIC rookie, who had just surrendered just four walks in his first six appearances of the year, gave up consecutive free passes, walking in the game-winning run.

UIC will look to capture its sixth win of the year in the rubber game of the series with Belmont tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
