Evansville, Ind. - The UIC baseball team took it on the chin Friday afternoon against Evansville as the Purple Aces cruised to their 15th win of the year, a 13-2 decision.
Evansville wasted no time in grabbing the lead as it tallied three runs in the bottom of the first. A pair of walks came back to haunt Flames' starter Nick Worm as Purple Aces second baseman Anthony Molina belted his second home run of the year over the centerfield fence with the two runners on for the 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, three consecutive hits and a pair of sacrifice flies sent three more Evansville runners across the plate for a 6-0 lead and it upped the margin to 8-0 with two more runs in the bottom of the third.
The Flames finally got their bats going in the fourth as Sean McNichols sent a shot up the middle for UIC's first hit of the game. A double by Weber Bowen two batters later brought McNichols in for the Flames' first run of the game.
In the eighth, McNichols tallied his second single of the afternoon and after Eric Duke's single to centerfield made it runners on first and third, a double off the bat of Jason Hughes scored McNichols for UIC's second run of the day.
Evansville did more damage in the bottom of the eighth, adding five more runs to its total for the 13-2 win.
Worm takes his fourth loss of the season while the Flames fall to 6-14. Evansville improves to 15-5. The two squads will meet again tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
