Oak Park, Ill. - The UIC women's tennis team saw its losing streak reach four as they lost a close 5-2 decision to Northern Arizona Saturday morning at the Oak Park-River Forest Racquet Club.
Emina Curic tallied the Flames lone singles win, downing Vickie Gunnarsson in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) at the No. 1 singles position. The senior now needs just three more singles wins to tie Sarah Jackson for the top spot on the career singles victories list with 81.
While NAU was victorious in the other five singles contests, both Jacki Farr (6-4, 5-7, 6-4/No. 2) and Zvjezdana Malesevic (6-2, 1-6, 6-3/No. 5) both lost three-set matches that proved to be the difference on Saturday.
The Flames did win the doubles point as the tandems of Curic and Zorica Malesevic, along with Alyson Stalzer and Zvjezdana Malesevic, both triumphed 8-6.
Nicole Derouin, UIC's freshman leader in singles victories, did not compete due to injury.
UIC, now 3-8 on the season, will take on Louisville tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
