Box Score

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC baseball team (12-17, 1-1 MCC) split its doubleheader this afternoon with the Wright State Raiders (10-17, 1-1 MCC), dropping the first contest, 8-3, before coming back in the nightcap for a 20-0 romp.

In game one, the Flames took an early one-run lead before Wright State moved in front as it put one run on the board in the second inning and four more in the third. Two more runs in the top of the seventh solidified the Raiders 8-3 victory.

UIC righty Sean McNichols, who went six innings and allowed seven hits with five strikeouts, was handed his second loss of the year.

Bob Rosinski and Eric Duke each managed a pair of hits for UIC, but twice the Flames couldn't capitalize with the bases loaded as they stranded nine runners in the seven-inning outing.

In game two, UIC wasted no time in grabbing the lead as it plated nine runs in the bottom of the first. The Flames sent 13 batters to bat in the first with doubles by Weber Bowen and Curtis Granderson and a triple by Sean McNichols highlighting the rally.

The Flames, who totaled 20 hits in the outing, then added to their lead with one more run in the fifth, four more in the sixth and six in the seventh. John Rosner sparked the six-run seventh inning as he belted his first home run of the season over the right field fence.

Pitcher Brad Mears was super on the mound for UIC as he surrendered just two hits in the complete-game shutout. In his third win of the year, Mears didn't allow a hit over the final four frames of the game while he ended up with eight strikeouts, including the final five batters of the game.

UIC and Wright State will meet again Sunday for a doubleheader starting at noon.
