Glen Ellyn, Ill. -The UIC women's tennis team began its 2000 season on Friday as they opened play at the three-day DePaul Invitational held at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Ill. The invite consists of singles and doubles tournment-play with no team scoring involved.
Reigning MCC Player of the Year, Jacki Farr, got off on the right foot as she cruised 6-2, 6-0 in her first singles match of the year while teammates Karen Liwanpo and Zvjezdana Malesevic were also victorious on the afternoon.
In doubles play, freshman Ayca Gumuscu made her collegiate debut a successful one as she teamed with Farr for an 8-4 superset triumph. Liwanpo and Zvjezdana (8-5), as well as Zorica Malesevic and Alyson Stalzer (8-1) posted doubles wins.
The Flames will continue singles and doubles play throughout the day tomorrow with the tournament concluding on Sunday afternoon.
