Bowling Green, Ohio - It was a different weekend, but in the end the UIC volleyball team suffered a similar result as they fell in the final of the BGSU Invitational to tournament host Bowling Green 15-11, 13-15, 15-10, 15-8, on Saturday night. The Flames, who lost in the tournament final of the Hofstra-Asics Invitational last Saturday, dropped to 9-2 on the season with the loss.
Freshman Lindsey Filkins paced UIC's effort as she finished the night with 20 kills and 14 digs. Filkins was one of four Flames to finish in double figures while Ann Hintz (16), Teaha Shepperd (14) also posted double-digit dig outings.
Despite UIC posting an above-average .233 attack percentage, the Falcons, who improved to 7-2 on the year, were better, tabbing a .333 attack percentage, including an over .400 percentage in the final two games.
Bowling Green's defense was also formidable as they tallied 14 team blocks (4 solo blocks, 20 block assists) compared to UIC's eight.
Following the tournament, the Flames' Erica Anderson and Lynn Clarkson were both named to the BGSU Invite All-Tournament team.
UIC has almost a week off now before they begin league play on Friday, Sept. 22, when they travel to Cleveland, Ohio, to battle Cleveland State at 6:00 p.m.
