Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team was never able to get on track Saturday afternoon as they were swept by UW-Milwaukee 15-6, 15-8, 15-9, at the UIC Physical Education Building.

The loss dropped UIC to 12-3 overall on the season and 2-1 in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference while the Flames' nine-match home winning streak was also snapped. The Panthers improved to 10-3, 2-1 in the conference as they bounced back from their loss last night at Loyola.

"We just got our butts kicked," UIC head coach Don August remarked after the match. "It's pretty disappointing. It's pretty embarrassing. Milwaukee played very well, but we expected them to. They didn't do anything differently then we expected. We just didn't come ready to compete."

UW-Milwaukee came ready on Saturday, as they played near perfect volleyball in the first game. The Panthers hit .556 in the frame with 20 kills on 36 attempts with no attack errors. UWM setter Lindsey Spoden spread the offense out as Larissa Cattanach had five kills while teammates Sarah Potts, Laura Dallenbach and Tari Boutin each had for in the game. UIC held tough early in the frame, but a few critical errors, and Milwaukee's lack of, led the Panthers to a 15-6 opening-game triumph.

While UWM came back down to earth in the second and third game of the match, the Flames hitting percentage continued to drop as the Panthers took the next two frames 15-8, 15-9.

Boutin finished the afternoon with 11 kills and a .556 attack percentage (11-1-18) to lead UW-Milwaukee as Potts (10 kills, 8 digs), Dallenbach (10 kills, 7 digs, 4 blocks), and Schurla (7 kills, 10 digs, 6 blocks) also contributed.

Junior Vicki Lublow, who totaled a team-high eight kills and 10 digs, paced the Flames. Fellow junior Amy Zabojnik also showed well off the bench, tallying five kills on nine attempts in her two games played.

UIC now has six days off, before welcoming preseason MCC favorite Loyola (7-6, 3-0 MCC) to the UIC Pavilion on Friday, October 6, at 7:00 p.m.
