Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team improved to 5-0 on the season with a sweep of tournament host Hofstra at the 2000 Hofstra Invitational in Hempstead, N.Y., on Friday night.

It was a freshman attack that put UIC up, but senior leadership that helped finish the Pride off as the Flames seemingly took turns picking Hofstra apart.

Game one was dominated by rookie Teaha Shepperd (10 kills, 10 digs, 2 blocks, 2 aces), who totaled eight of the Flames' 14 kills while also tabbing five digs and a service ace as UIC took the game 15-8. Freshman Lindsey Filkins, who finished the contest with a match-high 16 kills, took over the second game as she registered nine kills as UIC triumphed, once again, 15-8. In the third game, senior Jill Greer knocked down six kills on eight attempts as the Flames closed Hofstra out 15-7. Fellow senior Erica Anderson was also on the mark with 17 of her 44 assists in the final frame.

UIC will look for its second-straight tournament title tomorrow as they battle Massachusets at 10:00 a.m., prior to battling Cal State Northridge at 6:00 p.m.
