Chicago, Illinois - On many different occasions this season, the University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team has received solid performances from either senior Vicki Lublow or sophomore Lindsey Filkins, but it has been rare that both were successful in the same contest.

Saturday proved to be the exception as Lublow and Filkins led UIC to the 30-19, 24-30, 30-20, 30-23 victory over Youngstown State in a Horizon League contest at the Physical Education Building.

With the victory, UIC extends its winning streak to three matches and improves to 8-10 overall and 2-5 in the Horizon League. Youngstown State drops to 8-8 overall and 1-6 in the league.

Filkins recorded a team-high, 16 kills and added 14 digs, while Lublow recorded eight kills and tallied 16 digs for the Flames on Saturday.

Sophomore Teaha Shepperd recorded 16 kills and 10 digs, while teammate Gina Caneva added 12 kills and four blocks (1 solo, 3 assists). Freshman setter Dawn Strahanoski dished out 50 assists for the Flames.

"This is our best offensive game of the year," UIC head coach Don August said. "One of the reasons for that is our left sides really stepped up big time.

"It was a team effort, but I thought Vicki Lublow stood out all week with her defense and her offense," August continued. "I thought Filkins really came to play this weekend."

For the second straight contest, UIC found its success from behind the service line with 10 service aces. Senior Kim Forster topped the Flames and tied her season-high mark of five aces.

"Kim (Forster) has been doing a great job serving the ball aggressively as well as a few others," August said. "Kim really stands out in setting the pace for us."

Youngstown State received solid efforts from Kristen Meech (17 kills, 7 digs, 5 blocks), Annie Buschur (14 kills) and Laura Svette (12 kills).

August feels that his squad is on the right track heading into the second half of the Horizon League season.

"Now we want to get the next one (against IUPUI) on Tuesday," UIC head coach Don August said. "So we'll have the momentum when we go up to Green Bay and Milwaukee next weekend."

UIC will be back in action on Tuesday, as they will host IUPUI at the Physical Education Building at 6:00 p.m.
