Dayton, Ohio - University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball coach Don August could sense it.
Four consecutive five-game losses in Horizon League play would eventually take its toll on the Flames and it showed on Saturday.
Wright State swept UIC, 30-22, 30-22, 30-21, at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium to keep the Flames (5-10, 0-5) winless in Horizon League action. With the victory, Wright State improves to 12-3 overall and 4-2 in the league.
"We just didn't come to play," August said. "We showed no fight, no character and no spirit.
"It was very disappointing."
August cited the performances of both Vicki Lublow and Jordan Studzinski as highlights for the contest. Lublow recorded a team-high, nine kills and 11 digs, while Studzinski was solid defensively with six digs.
Sophomore Teaha Shepperd also added eight kills and seven digs for the Flames on Saturday.
UIC found itself trailing early on in all three games, and August found that difficult to combat.
"When you start chasing, it's tough," August said. "We just couldn't get over the hump."
Top performers for Wright State included Alison Sipiorski (11 kills), Karis Day (10 kills) and Tricia Naseman (7 kills, 12 digs).
UIC will be back in action on Tuesday as they will travel to Indiana to take on the Valparaiso Crusaders at 7 p.m.
