Milwaukee, Wisc. - Two University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball players were recognized at the Horizon League Volleyball banquet on Thursday night as sophomore outside hitter Teaha Shepperd was selected to the All-Horizon League second team, while teammate Dawn Strahanoski garnered All-Horizon League Newcomer team honors.
"It's just an honor that both of them were recognized by the other coaches around the league," UIC Head Coach Don August said.
Shepperd, an All-Newcomer selection in 2000, totaled 367 kills during her sophomore season, heading into tonight's Horizon League quarterfinal match-up against Butler at 5:30 p.m. at UW-Milwaukee's Klotsche Center.
"Teaha has been our main offensive threat all year," August said. "She certainly deserved to be on the team."
Strahanoski, a redshirt freshman setter, accumulated 1,237 assists during her rookie campaign.
"I thought Dawn, as a freshman setter, did a fantastic job for us all year," August said. "Even though it was a big year for setters on the All-Newcomer teams, I certainly thought that she belonged."
