Youngstown, Ohio - The University of Illinois at Chicago volleyball team earned a 30-27, 30-24, 30-28 sweep over Youngstown State at the Beeghly Center on Friday night.
With the victory, UIC improves to 14-14 overall and 5-8 in Horizon League play, while Youngstown State drops to 10-15 on the season and 1-12 in conference play.
Junior middle hitter Gina Caneva (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) led the way for UIC with 10 kills while sophomore outside hitter Teaha Shepperd (Kalamazoo, Mich./Galesburg-Augusta) and senior middle hitter Lynn Clarkson (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) each chipped in seven kills apiece.
"All along we played pretty solid ball the whole way through," UIC head coach Don August said.
Junior outside hitter Lara Clarkson (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) returned to action for the Flames following an ankle injury that kept her out of action since October 20th.
Clarkson made the most of her comeback as she connected for eight kills and a hitting percentage of .700 on the night as she played in only the final game of the match.
"We played as a very confident team tonight," August said. "We weren't in much danger of losing at all."
UIC will be back on the road tomorrow, as they will square off with Cleveland State at 3:00 p.m.
