Baseball Drops 11-8 Slugfest To Northwestern

Feb. 10, 2001

Box Score

Ft. Myers, Fla. - After combining for just five runs in the season opener for both squads Friday night, the UIC and Northwestern baseball teams shook off the rustiness in game two of their three-game series Saturday evening to plate 19 runs between themselves.

The Flames, however, came up on the short end, falling 11-8 to the Wildcats and 1-1 overall in the young 2001 campaign.

Junior righty Jaime Velasquez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling), who returns to the mound this year after missing the 2000 season with a rotator cuff injury, took the loss as he tossed four and third innings and surrendered five hits, four earned runs and four walks with one strikeout. Rookie Brendan Aubin (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) and senior Nick Worm (Montgomery, Minn./Montgomery-Lonsdale) also worked two and a third innings each for the Flames.

At the plate, junior John Rosner (Ottawa, Ill./Marquette), sophomores J.P. Moran (Burlington, Wis./Westosha Central) and Weber Bowen (Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) and senior Bob Rosinski (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) all tallied a pair of hits, including a double and triple by Bowen, who had a three-run home run in Friday's 4-1 win over the Wildcats.

UIC and Northwestern will play the final outing of their three-game series Sunday afternoon at noon (EST).
