Feb. 25, 2001

Box Score

Cookeville, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech's Josh Shoulders one-hit the UIC baseball team through six innings while his teammates exploded for 18 runs during that span as the Golden Eagles thumped the Flames, 18-5.

Junior lefty Gene Rausch (Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) got the start for UIC and in two and one-third innings gave up four hits, six walks and eight runs. Junior righty Jaime Velasquez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) then came on in relief of Rausch, but couldn't put a stop to Tennessee Tech's early innings rally either. In one and two-thirds innings, Velasquez was tagged for nine hits, eight runs and three walks with four strikeouts.

Rookie Brendan Aubin (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) finally settled things down on the mound for the Flames as he tossed the final four innings and gave up just four hits and two runs while striking out three.

Third baseman Bob Rosinski (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) had a strong afternoon at the plate to pace the Flames as he went 3-for-4 with his second home run of the season, two runs scored and two RBI. Outfielder Curtis Granderson (Lynwood, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) and reserve catcher Kevin Nelson (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) also added a pair of hits.

UIC and Tennessee Tech will wrap up their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
