Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's tennis team opened its 2001 home schedule on a sour note as they fell to UAB on Saturday afternoon at the Oak Park Indoor Facility, 6-1.
Junior Alyson Stalzer posted the Flames lone victory on the day, taking the No. 6 singles match 6-3, 6-3 over the Blazers Sjouke Liem.
In other singles action, senior Jacki Farr fought hard into the third set in the No. 3 position before falling, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 to Margaux Malsheimer. Sophomore Nicole Derouin, who competed in the No. 1 singles match, dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to UAB's Mirela Vladulescu.
On the doubles side, the Blazer's controlled the action, sweeping all three matches to earn the doubles point.
"(UAB) is a solid team all the way down," commented UIC Head Coach Mary Dailey after the match. "Jacki and Nicole both made progress today and I thought Aly played really tough."
The Flames (2-2) are back in action on Friday, Feb. 9, as they welcome Northern Iowa to the Windy City.
