April 15, 2001

Box Score

Dayton, Ohio - The UIC baseball team was hit for five runs in the first inning and the Wright State Raiders cruised on to a 15-5 victory Sunday afternoon as the squads split their four-game series.

The Flames fall to 18-20 for the year and 6-2 in Midwestern Collegiate Conference action while Wright State improves to 20-16 overall and 5-3 in the MCC.

The Raiders got to UIC starter Gene Rausch (Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) for six runs in one and a third innings of work before he turned the mound over to Eric Carlson (Northlake, Ill./Leyden). Wright State then roughed up Carlson for three more runs in the fifth while relievers Jaime Velasquez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) and Kevin Ryan (Elmhurst, Ill./York) were tagged for six more runs.

At the plate, the Flames were paced by Bob Rosinski (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier), Chuck Peters (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) and John Rosner (Ottawa, Ill./Marquette), who each tallied three hits and combined for nine of UIC's 13 hits for the afternoon.

Rosner led off the second inning with a single up the middle and then scored on a J.P. Moran (Burlington, Wis./Westosha Central) double for the Flames' first run of the game.

UIC went on to plate a pair of runs in the seventh off Wright State starter Chris Bedford before scoring two more in the ninth on Raiders' reliever Joe Powers. A double by Peters sparked the seventh inning rally while a two-baser by Rosinski keyed the two-run ninth inning.

The Flames will be back in action on Wednesday, April 18, when they host the University of Illinois at 6:05 p.m. at Les Miller Field. UIC will then jump back on the road for a four-game conference series at Butler next weekend, starting Friday, April 20, at 3:00 p.m.
