April 27, 2001

Box Score

Chicago, Ill. - For just the second time this season, the UIC baseball team suffered a home defeat as the UW-Milwaukee Panthers captured a 15-4 win Friday night at Les Miller Field.

The Flames, now 13-2 at home, fall to 21-24 on the year and 8-5 in Midwestern Collegiate Conference play. UW-Milwaukee moves to 23-11 overall, while putting a tighter clamp on its hold of first place in the league with the win with a 9-0 MCC mark.

The Panthers got to work immediately this evening on Flames' starter Steve Carlson (Newark, Ill./Newark), plating a pair of runs in the first and one more in the second for a 3-0 lead. UWM tallied just three hits in the first two frames, but it took advantage of a pair of balks as well as two UIC errors.

The Flames responded in the bottom of the second for their first run of the game as Nelson Gord (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) reached on a single, stole second and scored on Chris Kerpan's (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) single to right centerfield.

UW-Milwaukee, however, put the game away for good with four runs in the third, which chased Steve Carlson from the mound for Eric Carlson (Northlake, Ill./Leyden), and five more runs in the fourth for a 12-2 lead.

UWM shortstop Matt Houk and right fielder Jason Crawford each tallied three hits to pace the Panthers' offense while third baseman Bob Rosinski (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and designated hitter Chuck Peters (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) had three hits each for the Flames.

The Panthers' Quintin Oldenburg tossed seven innings and surrendered seven hits and a pair of earned runs while striking out six en route to his seventh win of the season. UIC's Steve Carlson was dealt the loss.

The Flames and UW-Milwaukee will meet again on Saturday for a pair of seven-inning doubleheaders starting at 1:05 p.m.
