Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago senior catcher Stefanie Christoferson capped her illustrious collegiate career on Wednesday evening as she was named a Louisville Slugger/Nation Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Third-Team All-American.
The Santa Barbara, Calif., native, who is the NCAA record holder for career games played (304) and holds the UIC career marks for hits (312) and home runs (37), batted a personal-best .380 (81-for-213) in 2001. She also set a new single-season school record with her 14 home runs while setting new career highs with 24 doubles, 56 RBI and a .700 slugging percentage.
With the award, Christoferson becomes just the second UIC softball player to earn All-American recognition, joining former teammate pitcher Samantha Iuli (1997-2000), who was a two-time honoree.
Christoferson picked up numerous other awards along the way to becoming an All-American, earning a spot on the Louisville Slugger All-Great Lakes Region First Team, as well as the All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference First Team while being named MCC Player of the Year for the second straight season.
The Flames finished the season with a record of 46-25, capturing the MCC Tournament Championship before making their fourth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Regional Championships.
