Volleyball Claims Second-Place At Ohio State Invitational

Columbus, Ohio - Tennessee Tech pushed the women's volleyball team to the brink in the first game of their match on Saturday as UIC and the Golden Eagles were in a 30-30 deadlock.

Consecutive kills by UIC outside hitters Lindsey Filkins and Teaha Shepperd, however, secured the victory and jumpstarted the Flames to a 32-30, 30-15, 30-21 victory and to a second-place finish in the Ohio State Invitational at St. John Arena on Saturday.

For their efforts, Filkins and Shepperd were selected to the All-Tournament team. Filkins compiled 21 kills and 28 digs throughout the weekend, while Shepperd added 33 kills and 24 digs.

Shepperd and Filkins were also catalysts for UIC's success against Tennessee Tech. Shepperd totaled 13 kills and 10 digs while Filkins added 12 kills and eight digs. Junior outside hitter Lara Clarkson also contributed six kills and 10 digs while freshman setter Dawn Strahanoski had 43 assists.

UIC (2-1) will be back in action this weekend, as they will travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado to participate in the Air Force tournament on Friday. The Flames will open against Washington at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, followed by an 8:00 p.m. match against the host Falcons.
