Colorado Springs, Colorado - The University of Illinois at Chicago women's volleyball team dropped a 30-19, 30-20, 30-23 decision to Washington in the first round of the Air Force Invitational.

Junior middle hitter Gina Caneva (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) led UIC (2-2) with 11 kills followed by sophomore outside hitter Teaha Shepperd (Kalamazoo, Mich./Galesburg) with eight kills and eight digs. Freshman setter Dawn Strahanoski (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) contributed 34 assists and eight digs.

Washington's Kaitlin Leck propelled the Huskies (3-2) to the victory with 13 kills and seven digs, followed by Paige Benjamin (10 kills) and Lisa Underhill (10 kills, 4 blocks).

UIC will square off with Air Force later on tonight at 8:00 p.m. followed on Saturday with a match-up against Southeastern Louisiana.
